Rider clauses
Meaning
Rider clauses are additional clauses attached to a standard charter party form that amend it or add terms the printed form doesn't cover.
Also written as Rider, Charterers' rider
Rider clauses explained
Most major charterers have a standard rider that they attach to every fixture, covering topics like sanctions, ETS costs, vetting, cargo retention and claims procedures. Owners agree to it with amendments negotiated in the recap.
Riders often run to dozens of pages and override the printed form where they conflict.

Recap
A recap is the broker's written summary of every term agreed in a fixture negotiation, which becomes the core of the charter party.
