Notice time
Meaning
Notice time is the waiting period, often six hours, between tendering a notice of readiness and laytime starting to count.
Also written as Six hours notice, NOR notice period
Notice time explained
Notice time gives the terminal and the charterer a short window to prepare once the ship reports ready. On tanker voyage charters it is typically six hours, and laytime starts at the end of the notice time or when the ship is all fast, whichever happens first.
Notice time is not laytime: it is not deducted from the allowance, and if the ship berths within the notice period the clock usually starts on berthing instead.
