SIRE
Ship Inspection Report Programme
Meaning
SIRE is OCIMF's Ship Inspection Report Programme: standardised tanker inspections whose reports are shared with oil companies for vetting.
Also written as SIRE inspection, SIRE 2.0, OCIMF inspection
SIRE explained
An accredited inspector, commissioned by an OCIMF member, inspects the ship against a standard questionnaire and the report is uploaded for other members to see. SIRE 2.0, rolled out from 2024, puts more weight on observing how the crew actually works.
A recent clean SIRE report is close to essential for chartering a tanker to an oil major.
