Unless used
UU
Meaning
“Unless used” (UU) means excepted periods count as laytime if cargo is actually worked; “even if used” (EIU) means they never count.
Also written as Even if used, EIU, SHEXUU, SHEXEIU
Unless used explained
These qualifiers sit after an exception such as SHEX. With “unless used”, if the terminal works cargo on a Sunday the hours worked count against laytime. With “even if used”, the Sunday is excluded whatever happens.
There are further variations, such as “unless used, in which case actual time used to count” or “half time used to count”. The exact wording decides the calculation.

SHEX

SSHEX
SSHEX means Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays are all excluded from laytime, so only weekdays count unless time used is counted.
Laytime
Laytime is the time the charterer is allowed, without paying extra, to load and discharge the cargo under a voyage charter.
