WIBON
Whether In Berth Or Not
Meaning
WIBON lets the master tender notice of readiness on arrival even if no berth is free, so waiting time for a berth can count as laytime.
WIBON explained
WIBON turns a berth charter into something close to a port charter for laytime purposes. If the ship arrives and the berth is occupied, it can tender NOR from the waiting place and the time waiting for the berth counts, subject to the other conditions of the charter.
The ship still has to be ready and, under most interpretations, within the port. WIBON doesn't help if the ship is waiting outside the port's legal limits, unless the charter also extends the place where NOR can be given.
